A quick overview of things to come in our Piano Year 2024-2025
Autumn Sketches (Sept-Oct) promises a rich tapestry of color New Englanders will readily recognize. From lyrical landscapes to foggy impressionist scenes, harvest hoedowns to harvest moons, our musical programme is sure to delight. Gathering/Gallery late October.
Holiday on the Cape (Nov-Dec) invites you to celebrate the spirit of the season. Holiday classics and winter themed pieces are sure to bring joy during this special time of year. Party at Catherine's and Gallery late December.
Decades (Jan-Mar) offers an opportunity to harken back in time to music close to our hearts. Love songs, movie themes, Broadway tunes, popular standards – whatever your tastes, you’re sure to have fun considering all the possibilities. Gathering / Gallery late March.
In the Mood (Apr-June) is an exploration of the human spirit. From love, joy, and gratitude to peace and contentment, sorrow and sadness to hope and renewal. Expressing feelings through music is the very essence of music. Party at Fay's and Gallery late June.
Duet Club is for beginners, too! Everyone is invited – and encouraged – to join. Our Gathering will be in late March. Music will run the gamut, from classical selections to jazz and ragtime to popular favorites. Here’s a great article detailing Six Benefits of Playing Piano Duets.
Timing Matters: This year’s Special Medal Challenge will focus on timing and is appropriate for all levels. In order to develop sight reading skills, it’s imperative to have a sense of the “pulse” in music and to recognize rhythmic patterns. Of course, these skills are also essential to playing repertoire well. There will be a series of six challenges over the course of the year, each challenge requiring about two hours total time commitment. This challenge does not require piano practice, per se. You can do it at the local coffee shop or from your most comfy chair.
I’m looking forward to another wonderful piano year with you all. Enjoy the last days of our Cape Cod summer. I’ll see you in September!
Excellent musings, Melissa!
